This Old(er) House
In the summer of , a homeless man who frequently slept at an east-side church poured a can of lighter fluid on his mattress and set it afire, destroying the Lighthouse Full Gospel Baptist Church. The church pastor, the Rev. David Reasby, arrived in tears, fearing that his pet Chihuahua "lil Bit" had died in the blaze. Five days later, the dog emerged from the charred ruins and was reunited with Reasby. That was nearly the final chapter in the history of the building in the Capitol Park neighborhood, which had been a potential candidate for the National Register of Historic Places before the fire.
